I then tried to make an image of the disk using R-Studio (allowing 1 read sector attempt). Right-clicking on the shown partition and Opening Volume, hangs there forever.ģ. #2 LBA: 976 707 583, and when I stop it, the partition directory entries etc show as zero. The partition scanning hangs on: Partition searching. The DMDE suggestion to right-click the partition and Open Volume, was victim to the problem I get with all the programs. The partition Find & Mount, in its faster mode, got stuck at 0% for at least half an hour and I stopped it.Ģ. Sorry for the delay but I was trying various things that kept the laptop buy.ġ. I would begin the recovery by restoring the boot sector backup copy. If all is OK, I would clone your drive, sector by sector, and then recover your files from the clone. Unfortunately this latter sector is unreadable, so that's why DMDE stumbles.ĭo you see your file/folder tree? If so, then select any file and recover it to another drive. This backup is located at the end of the partition (sector 976707583). The "Indicators" column indicates that the partion has an entry in the partition table ("E", sector 0), a recognisable boot sector ("B", sector 2048), a recognisable MFT ("F"), but there is no backup copy ("C") of the boot sector. I can't find it anywhere so if anybody knows of a source for it, I wouldn't mind getting and trying it. In the case the drive needs more power to startup for some reason. When i tried to start it up, I also got its flashing light but no clicking sounds. He claims that it did the same sounds when it was getting shut down for some time before today.ġ) Windows 7 saw it and installed the drivers for it. It also did some clicks during the time this was going on. Its light keeps flashing and eventually Windows claims that the disk needs formatting. It was working fine until yesterday night but this morning it refused to start. He shuts down the system and removes the disk every night. I'm trying to pinpoint the problem on a friend's drive and hopefully fix it using software instead of some recovery service (priced out of range for us).
